Is fear in your driver’s seat?

A few weeks ago I hosted my first online seminar. As soon as I sat down and looked into the camera I started sweating. “I don’t know how this works. What if I forget what I want to say? What if no one is interested in what I have to say?”

Then I clicked “start meeting”.

I stumbled on my words a bit and I only had 2 attendees but I did it and now I know I can. There’s still work to be done but it doesn’t scare me anymore.

The concerns you have about starting something new may be valid but how long have you been mulling them over? Sometimes you know the time isn’t right or your idea needs a few more finishing touches. But if you’re continuously unsure, if the time continues to “not be right”, and the tweaking never ends, ask yourself if you still really want to do this thing. Ask yourself if you’d do it if you knew you couldn’t fail. If the answer is yes, then just do it.

Work diligently, ask questions of yourself, dig deep, then do it. Done is better than perfect, especially since perfect doesn’t exist. Even if it did, it would be subjective. We all fail sometimes and you never know whether this is going to be one of those times, but don’t let that stop you. Don’t let fear make the decision for you.  What do you want to do but haven’t yet?
